On the nose, the wine exhibits an enticing palette of complex floral aromas, beautifully balanced by ripe fruit and mature tannins on the palate. Its generous body, classic structure and silky texture are matched by a long, satisfying finish. Overall, an elegant and stylish wine of great purity, seductive in its appeal.

Robert Parker - April 2015
The 2012 Issan, builds on the richness of the second wine and adds more body, structure and density. It has an inky purple color and stunning nose of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry fruit as well as touches of incense and graphite. Medium to full-bodied and stunningly concentrated, this 2012 is a great success in the vintage, one of the superstars. Moreover, its precociousness suggests it could be drunk in the next 4-5 years or cellared through 2025. ” (95 pts)

Decanter - April 2013
Lovely deep color and beautifully fragrant and pure nose, a classic ”feminine” Margaux of great class. Drink: 2016-2025

Château d'Issan is a property in the Margaux appellation, rated as a third growth in the official Bordeaux Classification of 1855. It is known for its richly aromatic, silky wine of the same name.

The estate is located just to the south of Château Margaux, and next door to Palmer. Around 53 of the property's 120 hectares are under vine (131 of 297 ac). Of that, 40 hectares (100 ac) fall within the Margaux appellation, with the remainder located in AOC Haut-Médoc and AOC Bordeaux Supérieur.

Around 70-percent is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon with 30-percent Merlot. The grand vin is typically aged for 18 months in oak casks, one third of which are new, and is then bottled without filtration. Blason d'Issan, the second wine, is sourced from younger vines and is more forwardly fruity and ready to drink earlier.

D'Issan has a long history even by the standards of Bordeaux. In 1152, its wine was served at the marriage between Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II of England. The current, moated château was built in the 18th Century and is regarded as one of the most picturesque in all of Bordeaux.

REGIONAL STYLE
Bordeaux Margaux wines tend to be deep ruby in color, perfumed and floral, particularly with notes of violets and lilacs, and soft, silky tannins.

Less masculine and powerful than wines from other regions of Bordeaux, Margaux wines are typically more refined and elegant.

Margaux is the furthest south appellation in the Médoc in Bordeaux's Left Bank and boasts many soil types, including limestone, chalk, clay, sand and gravel, meaning style and quality of Margaux can vary dramatically.

The best Margaux wines come from grapes planted on gravel soils with good drainage.
